Lab ALUMNI

Graduate Students

Shaela Jalava
Ph.D (2023) Cognitive Neuroscience

Shae completed her B.A. at the University of Calgary and her M.A. at Carleton University, specializing in eyewitness memory. She is interested in how memory is impacted during periods of mind wandering and the potential consequences of such attention lapses on memory quality.

Youssef Ali
MSc (2022)
Thesis: Interactions Between Memories During Learning: A Behavioural Measure of Representational Plasticity

I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2019, with a B.Sc. in Neuroscience. I'd like to explore the interface between cortical activation patterns and cognition. Specifically, I'd like to understand competition mechanisms in memory, and their implications for people with related cognitive disorders.

Undergraduate Students

Emmelie Mohammed
4th yr, Psychology, BScH major

Emmelie is working in the LAMP lab as a thesis student, exploring how changes in the brain correspond to drawing features overtime. Her research interests include memory, sleep, and mind wandering.

Aidan Taylor
3rd yr, Psychology, BSc

Aidan joined the lamp lab as directed research student to explore his interest in cognitive psychology. His research will be focused on exploring the existence of distinct clustering mechanisms within our memory for written and drawn stimuli.

Megan Lam
4th yr, Psychology BAH major

Megan is completing her thesis this year in the lab, looking at the relationship between neurotransmitter activity and learning. She is interested in memory and mind wandering research.

Maya Haklai
2nd yr, Psychology

I'm interested in all areas of psychology, but especially cognition and how it affects behavior. I'm also interested in the ways psychology overlaps with biology. In the future, I hope to pursue a research career that allows me to integrate the two fields.

Selena Breithaupt
4th yr, Psychology (B.Sc)

I am currently in my fourth year of study here at Queen's and will be joining the lab as a thesis student this year! I'll be exploring mind wandering in online courses and its impact on learning. In my spare time you can find me in the park playing frisbee, reading, or cooking!

Gabe Elias
4th yr, Psychology (B.Sc)

Hello! I am a thesis student in the lab this year, and I will be exploring the neural and cognitive basis of memory, and how it can be improved by distinct processes related to drawing and/or music. My downtime largely consists of playing and listening to music, reading, and writing!

Avalon Nisenbaum
4th yr, Psychology

Avalon is in her fourth year at Queen’s University as a Psychology BScH major. She is working this year as a thesis student in the LAMP Lab. Her research interests include attention and memory.

Research Support Staff

Natasha Saccon
Research Assistant / Lab manager

Natasha recently graduated from the University of Guelph with a B.A.H. in psychology and a minor in neuroscience. She has now joined the lamp lab to continue her research interests in cognitive psychology and neuroscience. Outside of the lab Natasha enjoys listening to music, cooking, and practicing meditation!

Majid Babaei
4th yr Ph.D., School of Computing

If you thought a fourth-year Ph.D. student at the School of Computing couldn't get involved in projects of the Department of Psychology, think again and see how deeply the disciplines are integrated! Hello, my name is Majid Babaei. My Ph.D. research falls at the intersection of Software Engineering (SWE) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this Lab I am developing a set of applications to support mind wandering research, and doing research on AI and human cognition

Gary Guo
1st year, MSc (School of Computing)

Hi! I am in my first year of Master of Computer Science and working on memory and learning-related project that utilizes machine learning and deep learning. In my spare time I like to play video games, watch TV shows and have fun with my friends.
